Discover the Winery: Tasca d'Almerita
Tasca d’Almerita is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Italy, founded in 1830 at Regaleali, in the rural heart of Sicily. The Tasca family is internationally recognized for its pioneering role in modern Sicilian enology. Among its many milestones, the creation of Rosso del Conte, a wine able to compete with the greatest reds in the world, the first single-vineyard wine ever produced in Sicily, made possible by a bush-trained planting of Perricone and Nero d’Avola established by Giuseppe Tasca in 1959. His son Lucio continued the pursuit of excellence, being the first to introduce Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to Sicily.
Today, the winery is led by Alberto Tasca, who has carried forward the family legacy with a particular focus on sustainability—an area in which Tasca d’Almerita has once again been a forerunner. Alberto Tasca is president of the SOStain Sicilia Foundation, an organization that brings together Sicily’s leading wine producers with the aim of promoting sustainable development in the regional wine industry.
Since 2001, Tasca d’Almerita has carried out a project to enhance native varieties in highly suited territories: alongside Regaleali, the historic estate spanning about 500 hectares, the family has added Capofaro on Salina, Tascante on the northern slope of Etna, Whitaker on Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in the Monreale DOC.
In 2019, Tasca d’Almerita was named “European Winery of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast, and in 2021 it became one of only 24 wineries worldwide to be awarded the prestigious “Green Emblem” sustainability recognition by Robert Parker – Wine Advocate. Since March 2023—already a Benefit Corporation—the winery has obtained the authoritative international B Corp certification, joining a select group of companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental sustainability. In 2025, Tasca d’Almerita received the designation of Historic Brand and was officially entered in the Special Register of Italian Historical Trademarks of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
