Bachelet-Ramonet Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge 2019

Rare Wine

Morgeot is close to La Boudriotte at an altitude and is mostly divided into Pinot Noir worlds, and further south, the village of Santenay, where the clay is relatively richer. The wine is more powerful and solid in this plot. Aromas of cherry, raspberry and rose petals, refreshing acidity, medium or higher body, and pleasant ripe tannins.

The late Clive Coates, the renowned Master of Wine, once said, "Ramonet's white wines are as high as Henri Jayer's red wines from the DRC." Balanced and elegant, with a more concentrated flavour profile, all wines are aged in some new casks, mostly 20 to 25 percent, and Grand Cru wines sometimes reach 46 percent. The barrel age time is 14 to 17 months.

Tasting Profile

  • Body: Medium-bodied
  • Tannins: Present and well-defined, providing a firm yet refined structure to the wine. They are ripe and show a good level of integration, suggesting both approachability in its youth with decanting and the potential for further softening and complexity with age. These tannins contribute to the wine's overall elegance and lingering finish.
  • Acidity: Medium-plus and vibrant, providing a crucial counterpoint to the wine's fruit concentration and contributing to its overall freshness and balance.
  • Sweetness: Dry

Tasting Notes: Upon the first swirl, the Bachelet-Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge 2019 reveals an expressive bouquet of ripe red cherries and juicy raspberries, interwoven with delicate notes of violets and a subtle hint of rose petals. As the wine opens up, more complex aromas emerge, including nuances of earthy underbrush, a touch of savory spice (like clove or cinnamon), and a whisper of new oak that manifests as a subtle vanilla or toast note. On the palate, the wine echoes these aromas with remarkable precision. The vibrant red fruit is beautifully framed by the well-integrated tannins and the lively acidity. A distinctive minerality, often described as stony or slightly chalky, adds depth and complexity. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering notes of cherry, spice, and a subtle earthy undertone, showcasing the pedigree of this Premier Cru vineyard.

Discover the Winery: Domaine Bachelet-Ramonet

Domaine Ramonet is an elite producer of Burgundy wines with a long-standing history of excellence. The estate is best known for its highly individual Chardonnays, which are considered among the finest in the world. The prime sites, including the legendary Montrachet Grand Cru, produce grapes that are hand-harvested, selected, and aged in mostly neutral French oak barrels. This results in wines with a unique profile that represents the terroir of the Cote de Beaune, with a distinctly reductive, flinty power. The family's passion for winemaking has been passed down through generations, with the Ramonet brothers Jean-Claude and Noël overseeing the 17-hectare property, which boasts a diverse range of vineyards from village level to Premier Cru and Grand Cru. Jean-Claude is now firmly in charge, and his children are also members of the team. The range of Domaine Ramonet wines has grown over the years. The Montrachet Grand Cru arrived in 1978, and a vine swap with Domaine Chartron brought the Chevalier-Montrachet twenty years later. The estate acquired more vines in the Chassagne-Montrachet premiers crus in the early 1990s, then Bouzeron in 2011, followed by acquisitions or farming agreements in Jean-Claude Ramonet's own name, including the Clos des Caillerets in 2014. Domaine Ramonet takes pride in the cultivation of their (mostly old) vines. In recent years they have made a greater effort in the vineyard and believe that healthy soil, mature vines, and low yields are essential to producing high-quality wines. The Ramonets have a particular affection for their prized 1er Cru vineyards with which their grandfather, Pierre, made his mark: Les Ruchottes (white) and the Clos de la Boudriotte (red). The family's dedication to excellence is evident in their range of wines, most of which are considered the finest examples of Burgundy available today.
